Frequently Asked Questions

General

What Are the Best Types of LED Shopping Mall Lighting Fixtures to Use?

There are so many different types of lighting used in malls, as a mall has both indoor lighting and outdoor lighting. Which makes it difficult to say one light is the best light. We work with our commercial customers to understand the lighting they have and then recommend lights that would work best for them.

What Are the Ideal Lighting Levels for a Shopping Mall?

There is such a wide range of light levels – and it depends on the mall. We’ve seen guidelines that suggest everything from 5-foot candles to 100-foot candles. And then there’s breaking down the different areas within a mall – each could be different.

What Considerations Should You Keep in Mind When Designing a Lighting Layout for a Mall?

You want to create a bright inviting space for customers. Without them noticing the lights. You may decide to choose between direct and indirect lighting. Or includes domes on high bays to address glare.

How Do You Decide on How Many Lights for a Mall When You Have a Lot of Natural Light?

There are two ways to approach this. First, design the lighting so that it satisfies the light levels when the mall is open after sunset. Then consider dimming the lights to take advantage of natural daylight.  We’d be happy to create a free lighting plan for the spaces you want to light up. And this will determine the number of lights required to meet the lighting levels you desire.

Lighting Outside Shopping Mall

What Kind of Lighting’s Used in Mall Stores?

It varies. It can be high bays, panels, or recessed-mounted metal halide lights.  These are replaceable with metal halide conversion kits. For outdoor lighting, you usually find parking lot fixtures and wall packs.

BEFORE YOU BUY

What Type of LED Shopping Mall Lighting Should You Use Outside of a Strip Mall?

Shoeboxes, or parking lot lights, are good for general parking. Soft lighting above the doors. And wall packs around the building will provide high-quality outdoor lighting.

Should You Use Street Lights or Parking Lot Lights in a Mall Parking Lot?

We would recommend parking lot lights instead of street lights. There are more options available that can replace 400 Watt and 1000 Watt metal halides. These are stronger than most street light options.

Do You Have Recessed Can Light Options? How About Retrofit Kits for Existing Can Lights?

We can retrofit incandescent, CFL, halogen, and metal halide recessed can lights. Our most powerful option can replace 400 Watts metal halide.

In Our Mall Parking Area, We Have 400 Watt Metal Halide Wall Packs and 1000 Watt Metal Halide Parking Fixtures. What Equivalent Fixtures Do We Need?

We have many options that can replace or retrofit 400 Watt and 1000 Watt metal halide bulbs.

What Color Fixtures Do You Have? We Want Something That Is Appealing.

Most of our outdoor parking lot fixtures are bronze or white, which are by far the most common colors. Indoors, we also offer white and black high bays.

The Lights in the Mall Are at 40 Feet. What Do We Need to Use to Get a Lot of Light on the Floor?

This is where we introduce optics to our lighting. A standard beam angle of 120 degrees is not going to work as well as a 60 or 90-degree beam angle. The light needs to focus down.

What Is the Best Color Temperature for LED Shopping Mall Lighting?

In general public areas, 3000K to 4000K is a good option. In mechanical areas and outdoors, 4000K to 5000K is a good option.
