Frequently Asked Questions
In conversations with new customers, we asked them what questions they wished they had asked before buying soccer field lights. Here’s the list below. If you couldn’t find the answer, contact us on (888) 423-3191 and we'll be happy to assist you.
How High Should Soccer Field Lights Be Mounted?
There is no one height we would recommend, but higher is typically better than lower, and closer to the field is better than far away. We have created lighting plans for many outdoor sport fields, and the pole heights have ranged between 30 feet and 75 feet.
Do Portable Lights Work Well for Soccer Fields?
They can, but they could be a source of glare if the source of light is not high enough. Understanding how these lights work, how each light needs to be aimed, creates a level of set up that is different from a fixed light source on a pole. So while they can work, it's not ideal as a long term solution.
Can You Use Solar Lights for a Soccer Field?
No, they are not powerful enough to light a field up properly.
Before You Buy
How Many Lumens Do You Need to Light Up a Soccer Field?
Start with the amount of light you want (in terms of foot candles), and create a lighting plan. The lighting plan will detail the number of lights, optics needed, and how powerful the lights need to be to meet your lighting requirements.
How Much Do Soccer Field Lights Cost?
We have a high power 200 Watt flood light that starts at $285.00. More powerful models are available if needed.
Are Floodlights or Stadium Lights Better for a Soccer Field?
We have found that high power flood lights work well when they are mounted relatively close to the field. If the lighting positions are far from the playing field, stadium lights are a better option because they have more low beam optic options.
Can You Provide a Lighting Layout for My Soccer Stadium?
Yes we can. Contact us today and we will create a free lighting plan specific to your requirements.
How Can I Avoid the Long Start Up Times That I Currently Have with Metal Halide?
LEDs are instant on, instant off, so the light starts operating in full power within 1 second.
Fixtures and Fittings
What Beam Angle Is Best for Soccer Field Lights?
There is no one best beam angle, but there is a best beam angle for your soccer field. That is why we recommend creating a lighting plan. Thanks to it, we can determine the specific types of lights needed and the ideal beam angle to create balanced lighting.
Do You Have Solar Lights That Will Light Up Our Running Track and Soccer Field?
We do not. Solar lights are not powerful enough to light up running tracks and soccer fields.
Do These Fixtures Qualify for Rebates?
They can, but that has more to do with the utility company supplying the power than our lights. Most of our lights are DLC qualified, but it's up to the utility company to offer the rebate, and that varies from company to company.
How Long Will These Fixtures Last?
Since soccer lights are not used all the time, it's not unreasonable to think they can last 20+ years.
How Many Lights Do I Need to Light My Soccer Field?
Every field is different and has specific lighting requirements. The best way to determine how many lights you need is to start off with a lighting plan and determine your field's lighting requirements.
How Can We Get Rid of the Shadows on Our Field?
The goal with good lighting design is to have enough lights so that every part of the field is ‘touched’ with light. It is better to use 2 smaller powered lights than 1 large more powerful light. The latter scenario will create a bright area, then shadows until the next light's bright area.
How Do You Install Lights on a Soccer Field?
There is no difference between installing our lights and any traditional metal halide light, other than the fact that our lights are more compact and should weigh less. We offer all the same mounting types and hardware as older traditional lights, and there are only 3 wires to connect to the electrical service.
Soccer Field Lighting Plans
Why are soccer field lighting plans important?
Its hard to look at off the shelf lights and try to figure out if they will be a good fit for your indoor or outdoor soccer field. What wattage / lumen package should you choose? What beam angle? What color temperature?
The probability of guessing right is very low. A lighting plan takes away the guess work.
The good news? We offer free - no obligation - indoor and outdoor soccer field lighting plans for our commercial customers.
