What are Light Towers Used For?
Light towers provide a wide range of applications for temporary lighting situations. Among them are:
- building construction sites
- road construction sites
- emergency rescue efforts
- military operations
- mines
- remote rigs
- outdoor events (including):
- sports
- entertainment
- flea markets
- video productions
What are LED Light Towers?
LED light towers are mobile, self-powered lights used to illuminate outdoor sites. They can be gas or solar-powered and come in a variety of sizes. They range in size from smaller tripod and quadpod units to midsize masts and towers, and extra-large tower systems.
The LED lights for light towers are a modern upgrade to older lights, such as metal halide or high-pressure sodium. Typically, you use high-power flood lights for light towers.
Retrofit or Replace Existing Light Towers
It would be better to replace existing light tower lights. It is more cost-effective, and the entire unit will be longer-lasting. If you retrofit with light tower LED conversion kits, you will likely need to replace the lights sooner than had you installed new fixtures.
Benefits of Upgrading Metal Halide Light Towers with LED
LED lights are a superior upgrade to metal halide lights. Advantages include:
- They have a longer life.
- They consume less energy.
- They have a better quality of light. This includes a higher output, color quality, and beam focus.
- They are instant on/off. This means that there is no need to wait for the lights to warm up.
- They are environmentally friendly. There are no hazardous disposal issues at the end of their life.
- They are more durable. There are no fragile housings or filaments.
- They have a greatly reduced lamp heat.
LED Wattage to Replace 1000-Watt Light Tower Lights
Typically, a 400-watt LED will replace a 1000-watt HID light. We recommend our 400-watt area flood light with 56000 lumens. It provides a compact and rugged upgrade option. It weighs 24 pounds, and its dimensions are 18.82” x 10.63” x 15.35”.
Another option would be to replace it with two, 200-watt area flood lights if your tower allows for it.
Do You Sell Light Tower Replacement Bulbs?
No. We only sell retrofits and new fixtures. You are better off with LED in the long term rather than replacing old metal halide bulbs. Aside from the benefits listed in the previous question:
- There is no need for a reflector. LED lights already have their beam focus.
- There is no need for a ballast. An LED driver is much more reliable.
- Quality LED lights typically come with a 5 to 10-year warranty.
Installing LED Replacement Lights on a Light Tower
If you are retrofitting HID lighting systems, such as metal halide or high-pressure sodium lights, you must:
- Remove the old bulb, the mogul base, the ballast, and the reflector.
- Install the LED light and driver while using the associated mounting hardware.
