What is Natatorium Lighting Design?
Natatorium lighting design uses specialized lighting design software to create a lighting plan for indoor natatoriums. It calculates the total number of fixtures you’ll need. It shows you where to install the fixtures. And it will provide light levels on the floor or desk level and light balance.
Light balance is just as crucial as natatorium lighting requirements. Creating a lighting solution that’s bright and balanced is the difference between noticing how good the light is and how bad it is.
We offer free lighting designs for our commercial lighting and industrial lighting clients, electricians, electrical contractors, and ESCOs.
What are the Guidelines for Natatorium Lighting Fixtures?
This depends on the level of competition. Here are some guidelines that you can use to determine how much you need.
Professional Level: Pool: 75 foot candles (fc), Deck: 50 foot candles (fc)
College Level: Pool: 50 fc, Deck: 20 fc
Recreation Level: Pool 30 fc, Deck: 10 fc
Start with deciding how much light or foot candles you need, and then have us create a lighting plan. The lighting plan will show you the ideal light locations. It will also show the type of fixtures used, and foot candles across the surface of the pool and deck.
Just as important as lumens, picking the appropriate optic package to ensure a good beam spread.
How Many Lumens Do You Need for an Indoor Swimming Pool?
On the low end, 10 lumens per square foot would be for recreational level pool decks. On the upper end, 75 lumens per square foot would be a good target for professional level pools.
Can Any High Bay Light Fixture Be Used in a Commercial Pool Facility?
Not all high bay fixtures are suitable for natatoriums. Look for fixtures with tempered glass lenses and cast aluminum bodies. These will help the fixture stand up to high humidity and chlorine.
What Determines the Perfect or Optimal Lumens for an Indoor Swimming Pool?
The ideal lumens for an indoor pool depend on the required light levels you need. This is a measurement of foot candle levels. Our lighting plans can help you to decide where the fixtures should be installed, the type of fixture and foot candle distribution.
How Can You Reduce Glare in a Natatoriums?
We recommend installing frosted lenses to hide the ‘star’ appearance of LEDs that show with a clear lens.
What is the Difference Between a Lighting Design Calculator and a Lighting Plan?
Use a calculator if:
- You are looking for a free, online tool to quickly calculate the number of fixtures you need
- You want quick, simple, and immediate results
- You are looking for a count of light fixtures needed based on a specific budget
- You need a rough estimate on quantity and layout/configuration does not matter
- There is no need to include specific light balance and shadows in your documentation
Use a lighting plan layout if:
- You would like a professional lighting plan engineer to review your requirements
- You need a calculated lighting plan that shows foot candle readings
- You need to see how balanced the light levels are, and you care about reducing shadows
- You want to show aiming angles, and light positions in scale within your indoor or outdoor area
- You need professional assurance that the lights you buy will be the right choice
