Shoebox Fixture Lighting Layout Estimator
Use this estimator to calculate approximate fixture count, pole placement, spacing, and average foot-candles for parking lots, exterior areas, and outdoor sport court applications using the selected LED shoebox fixture. Enter the area size, mounting height, target foot-candles, light loss factor, and outdoor light use factor to generate a preliminary layout.
Project Inputs
Estimated Results
Estimated average foot-candles are preliminary. The visual heat map is normalized to the estimated average and is intended to show approximate coverage behavior, not a verified lighting plan.
Parking Lot / Exterior Area Mode: Fixtures are placed on poles along the longest edges of the area. Edge fixtures are modeled as level / down-facing shoebox fixtures with the optic directed inward. For wider parking areas, a center row can be added.
Sport Court Mode: Poles are placed on the long edges of the court. Fixtures are modeled as level / down-facing and directed toward court coverage zones instead of being tilted toward one center point.
Photometry / Simulation Note: When usable IES photometry is available for the selected fixture, this estimator uses the fixture’s IES candela data to improve the visual ground-level light distribution. When IES photometry is not available, the estimator uses a simulated Type 3 or Type 5 optic model based on lumens, mounting height, outdoor light use factor, light loss factor, and fixture direction.
Outdoor Light Use Factor: Suggested starting points: open rectangular paved area 0.60–0.70, typical parking lot 0.45–0.60, areas with setbacks or edge losses 0.35–0.50, complex outdoor sites 0.25–0.40.
Preliminary Estimate Only: This estimator is intended for simple rectangular outdoor areas. Actual light levels may vary based on fixture optics, pole setbacks, mounting height, fixture orientation, distribution type, surface reflectance, obstructions, voltage, installation conditions, spill light requirements, and site-specific requirements.
This estimate is a starting point. Parking lots, roadways, sport courts, public areas, campuses, vehicle areas, and code-sensitive exterior projects should be reviewed with a lighting plan before purchase or installation.
Product Overview
This adjustable LED shoebox area light provides selectable 80W, 100W, or 150W output with selectable 3000K, 4000K, or 5000K color temperature settings. It is built for pole-mounted exterior area lighting where fixture output and color temperature may need to be set during installation.
The Type 3 distribution directs light outward from the pole for perimeter and site layouts. Arm and slip fitter mounting support common shoebox fixture installation methods.
Core Performance and Output
Output is selectable at 10,400, 13,000, or 19,500 lumens. Fixture efficacy is 130 lumens per watt, with 80+ CRI and 120V-277V operation at 50/60Hz.
The standard Type 3 distribution is intended for directional area coverage from a pole-mounted position. The 150W setting can produce excessive light at lower mounting heights if output is not matched to the layout.
Power factor is greater than 0.9. The fixture includes a polycarbonate lens and 6kV surge protection.
Adjustability and Control Options
Wattage adjustment provides 80W, 100W, and 150W operating settings. Color temperature adjustment provides 3000K, 4000K, and 5000K settings.
The fixture supports 0-10V dimming. An optional NEMA socket and twist lock photocell are available for photocell-controlled operation.
Longevity and Reliability
Rated service life is 50,000 hours. The operating temperature range is -22F to 113F.
The 6kV surge protection helps address electrical surge exposure in exterior installations. Long-term operation still depends on proper fixture mounting, wiring, and site electrical conditions.
Build Quality and Physical Characteristics
The housing is die-cast aluminum with a bronze finish. The fixture measures 15.55 inches long by 9.88 inches wide by 2.6 inches high and weighs 7 pounds.
IP65 construction supports exterior exposure. The fixture EPA rating is 1.1 and must be considered with the pole, mounting method, and site wind-load requirements.
Where This Product Fits Best
This fixture fits exterior pole-mounted layouts that need directional Type 3 distribution, selectable output, and selectable color temperature. It is suited to commercial and public site lighting layouts using arm or slip fitter mounting.
- parking lot lighting
- commercial site lighting
- area lighting
- roadway perimeter lighting
- dealership lighting
- campus lighting
IP65 construction, die-cast aluminum housing, and operation from -22F to 113F support exposed outdoor conditions. Pole capacity and wind-load requirements must support the fixture EPA rating of 1.1.
Installation and Long-Term Use
Install the fixture using the arm mount or slip fitter mount specified for the pole and mounting arrangement. Confirm 120V-277V supply voltage, fixture wattage setting, color temperature setting, and dimming or photocell requirements before energizing the fixture.
The fixture should be aimed according to the Type 3 distribution and the required site coverage pattern. Inspect mounting hardware, wiring connections, lens condition, and photocell operation during routine exterior maintenance.
How This Fixture Is Commonly Used
These fixtures are mounted on poles and arranged to direct Type 3 light away from the pole across the intended site area. Mounting height and pole location affect distribution reach, light level, and uniformity.
Layouts typically follow drive lanes, parking rows, property edges, and open site areas. Spacing varies with the selected wattage, mounting height, pole placement, and required light levels.
Safety, Certifications, and Warranty
This fixture is UL listed and DLC Premium. It is IP65 rated.
The warranty is 5 years. Use the fixture within its listed voltage range and operating temperature range.
