Product Lighting Layout Estimator
Use this estimator to calculate approximate fixture count, spacing, and average foot-candles for a simple rectangular space using the selected LED fixture. Enter your room dimensions, mounting height, target foot-candles, light loss factor, and room/layout condition to generate a preliminary lighting layout.
Project Inputs
Estimated Results
Estimated average foot-candles are preliminary and should be verified with a lighting plan for project-critical applications.
How the Estimator Inputs Work
These inputs affect fixture quantity, spacing, and estimated average foot-candles. Use realistic project values rather than selecting the highest or lowest setting to force a preferred result.
Fixture and Wattage / Lumen Setting
The selected fixture provides the lumen output, wattage, available photometry, and product limits used by the estimate. For adjustable fixtures, select the setting that will actually be used after installation.
Beam Angle
Beam angle describes the approximate spread of light from the fixture. It is used only when usable IES photometry is unavailable. Narrower beams concentrate light; wider beams spread it across a larger area.
Room Length and Width
Enter the dimensions of the area being illuminated, not the total building size when only part of the building is included in the layout.
Mounting Height
Use the distance from the fixture to the floor or work plane. Higher mounting generally requires more output or tighter optics to maintain the same light level.
Target Foot-Candles
Foot-candles measure light reaching a surface. Enter the desired average light level for the work being performed. Required levels can vary by task, organization, safety requirements, and existing ambient light.
Light Loss Factor (LLF)
LLF estimates how much usable light remains after normal lumen depreciation, dirt accumulation, and maintenance conditions. A value of 0.85 assumes about 85% of initial fixture output remains available.
- 0.90–0.95: Clean spaces with regular maintenance
- 0.80–0.90: Typical warehouses, shops, and commercial facilities
- 0.70–0.80: Dusty, dirty, or difficult-to-maintain environments
LLF does not account for racks, equipment, dark finishes, or poor fixture placement. Those conditions are handled separately by the Room / Layout Condition setting.
Room / Layout Condition
This simplified utilization factor estimates how effectively fixture light reaches the work area. It combines room reflectance, fixture distribution, shelving, racks, machinery, and other obstructions.
- Open / Light-Colored – 0.90: Light ceilings and walls, open layout, and few obstructions
- Typical Warehouse or Shop – 0.75: Average reflectance with moderate shelving or equipment
- Racked or Obstructed – 0.60: Tall racks, machinery, partitions, or objects that block light
- Dark or Complex – 0.45: Dark surfaces, dense equipment, deep racks, or irregular layouts
This setting is a practical estimating shortcut, not a replacement for a full coefficient-of-utilization calculation or a photometric lighting plan.
Calculation Mode and Fixture Count
Calculate fixture count from target FC estimates the minimum quantity needed to reach the target average. Use my fixture count evaluates a quantity you enter. The estimator may round up to create complete rows and a balanced grid.
Estimated Average FC and Spacing
Estimated average foot-candles are based on fixture lumens, quantity, room area, LLF, and room/layout condition. Approx. spacing shows center-to-center fixture spacing in the proposed row and column layout.
IES Photometry vs. Simulation
When usable IES data is available, the visual heat map uses the fixture's measured candela distribution. Otherwise, it uses a simulated beam model based on lumens, mounting height, beam angle, LLF, and room/layout condition. Fixture count and average FC remain preliminary lumen-method estimates in both modes.
Preliminary Estimate Only: This estimator is intended for simple square or rectangular spaces. It does not fully model rack aisles, machinery shadows, wall reflectance, work-plane height, emergency-lighting requirements, or site-specific installation conditions. Use a lighting plan when exact light levels, uniformity, glare, fixture aiming, or code-sensitive results are important.
This estimate is a starting point. Warehouses, industrial facilities, hazardous locations, sports areas, schools, healthcare spaces, public areas, and code-sensitive projects may require a reviewed lighting layout before purchase or installation.
Product Overview
The 200 / 250 / 300 Watt Adjustable LED Linear High Bay Light is designed for high-ceiling environments where efficient and powerful illumination is required. This fixture is suitable for applications such as warehouse aisle lighting and manufacturing facility lighting. With its adjustable wattage and rotatable lens, it offers flexibility in both output and beam direction, making it a versatile choice for various industrial settings.
This LED linear high bay light is a modern replacement for traditional 250 to 400 Watt metal halide fixtures, providing significant energy savings and reduced maintenance costs. It operates within a voltage range of 120-277V, making it compatible with a wide range of electrical systems. The fixture's 4-foot length and lightweight design facilitate easy installation in large spaces.
Core Performance and Output
This LED linear high bay light delivers between 26,400 to 48,000 lumens, depending on the selected wattage setting of 200, 250, or 300 watts. With an efficacy of 160 lumens per watt, it ensures high efficiency and reduced energy consumption. The fixture features a 90° beam angle, providing focused illumination suitable for aisle and open area lighting.
While the fixture is designed for high-ceiling applications, excessive output may occur at lower mounting heights, potentially leading to glare. It is important to consider the mounting height and spacing to achieve optimal uniformity and minimize any potential for reduced performance at extreme heights.
Adjustability and Control Options
The fixture offers wattage adjustability, allowing users to select the appropriate output level for their specific application needs. Additionally, the rotatable lens provides flexibility in directing light where it is most needed. The 0-10V dimming capability enables integration with lighting control systems for further energy savings and customized lighting levels.
These features make the fixture adaptable to changing requirements, whether for energy management or specific task lighting needs. The ability to adjust both wattage and beam direction enhances its suitability for dynamic environments.
Longevity and Reliability
With a lifespan of 50,000 hours, this LED linear high bay light offers long-term reliability and reduced maintenance frequency. The fixture is equipped with 10kV surge protection, safeguarding it against voltage spikes and ensuring consistent performance over time.
Operating within a temperature range of -40°F to 122°F, it is suitable for a variety of indoor environments, including those with fluctuating temperatures. The robust design ensures dependable operation in demanding industrial settings.
Build Quality and Physical Characteristics
The fixture is constructed with a frosted polycarbonate lens and a white finish, providing both durability and an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Its dimensions of 45.9 inches in length, 12.8 inches in width, and 2 inches in height, along with a weight of 8 pounds, make it manageable for installation and maintenance.
