What Is the Ideal Volleyball Court Lighting Layout?
The ideal volleyball court lighting layout will show a physical scaled representation of the court, and lights installed either overhead (indoor) or on poles near the edges of the volleyball court. The layout will include foot candle readings across the court, a light balance calculation and a 3D rendering of the court space lit up
What Are the Recommended Volleyball Court Lighting Levels?
We recommend a minimum of 30 foot candles, with a desired range of 30-50 foot candles. For competition level tournaments, we can design brighter playing surfaces with powerful LED fixtures.
How Does Volleyball Court Lighting Design Differ Between Indoor and Outdoor Courts?
The biggest difference is where the lights are mounted. In indoor volleyball courts, lights can be mounted from above, making it rather simple to achieve light levels and lighting balance across the entire playing area. In outdoor volleyball courts, pole mounted lights on the perimeter of the court with either flood optics or forward throw optics allow better light balance with perimeter mounted lights.
How Far From the Volleyball Court Should Poles Be Placed?
You do not want the poles mounted too close or too far from the court. Playersโ safety is paramount, so the poles have to be far enough. However, if theyโre too far, it might be more difficult to evenly light up the court.
