Stadium Light Poles

As their name implies, stadium light poles are used to mount luminaires that provide lighting for stadiums and sport fields. Powerful stadiums and sports lights can be mounted from these wooden poles on horizontal mounting arms.

Outdoor stadiums host a wide variety of events such as sports competitions and concerts. In order to host these events at night, a robust lighting system must be in place to properly illuminate the main attraction. Powerful flood and stadium lights are typically used for these venues and they must be mounted on tall light poles so that their light is cast downward.

Stadium light poles have different characteristics depending on their use. For example, they are available in different heights, materials, and load capacities. They must also be able to withstand the elements. Wind and moisture can drastically shorten the lifespan of a light pole if they are not made of the proper material. This can make them unsafe for public areas.

How Much Do Stadium Light Poles Cost?

Pricing for stadium light poles depends on multiple considerations:

Taller light poles will cost more than shorter poles.

Steel, aluminum, and fiberglass light poles will cost more than wood or concrete poles.

Light poles that can handle heavier loads (meaning more mounted fixtures) will cost more because they will need to be thicker and sturdier.

What Is the Ideal Spacing for Stadium Light Poles?

This will depend on the size and type of the arena. Sporting venues like football, baseball, and cricket stadiums each have their own shapes and unique requirements. For outdoor concert venues, there will be a difference between general and stage lighting. As a general rule, the light poles should be evenly spaced around the stadium so that their light fixtures can provide an even and (mostly) shadowless light on the main activities going on at the venue.

What Is the Ideal Stadium Light Pole Height?

Again, this will depend on the size and type of the arena. If there is a larger area to illuminate, the fixtures will need to be mounted at a greater height. As a rule of thumb, the minimum height that is required is 25 feet. A more standard range is 40-80 feet. For professional level venues, pole height might need to be 100 feet or more. By way of contrast, street and parking lot light poles are around 20-30 feet.
