What are Commercial LED Flood Lights?
A Commercial LED Flood Light is a versatile and energy-efficient fixture that is used to provide illumination and security lighting in outdoor spaces. They can be used in locations such as parking lots and roadways. They are typically mounted on poles, walls, and roofs.
LED Sports Flood Lights can be used for sports courts and tennis courts. You’ll find them lighting up baseball fields, softball fields, and basketball courts. They can be configured with different beam angles from narrow to wide. This provides varied lighting options for different needs and requirements. They work particularly well as security lights in large open fields or spaces.
Commercial and Industrial Grade LED Flood Lights
Many flood lights are not commercial or industrial grade. Flood lights are a broad category of many products. They include lower-wattage consumer products designed to add lights around the home. That is not what we sell. We are a commercial flood lights supplier.
Some of our Industrial LED Flood Lights have marine-grade coatings to withstand saltwater environments. We also offer high-powered industrial flood lights you can configure to replace sports field lighting.
Benefits of LED Outdoor Flood Lights
We have many LED commercial flood lights that serve specific needs and requirements.
But for the most part, they all offer:
- Powerful light beams with configurable optics
- 10+ years of near-zero maintenance costs for lighting
- High-quality light output
- Energy Efficiency: Reduced Energy and Maintenance Costs when compared to Metal Halide Fixtures and HID traditional flood lights
- Wet locations: Look for IP65 or higher
The Difference Between an Outdoor Flood Light and Spot Light
The real difference between a flood light and a spotlight is the spread of the light beam they produce.
- Floodlights have wider beam angles meant to “flood” a large outdoor space with light.
- A spotlight has a narrowly focused beam pattern meant to throw a large amount of light out to a specific point. Some of our flood lights can do both.
The Difference Between Outdoor LED Flood Lights and Stadium Lights
There is a close resemblance between these two types of fixtures. In some cases, you can use floodlights in place of LED Stadium Lights.
Stadium lighting is a powerful flood light and has a series of optional “tight” beam patterns. These include 10, 15, 30, 45, and 60-degree beam patterns. Its light can be pointing from high mounting points to specific locations of a field.
LED Flood light fixtures can also be high-power fixtures. Its range of optics is not as narrow and it has wider options available.
We’ve installed powerful commercial-grade lighting in baseball, football, and soccer fields. They performed well because the available beam patterns worked with their pole heights. We can create proper light levels and balanced lighting with these fixtures.
Nema Beam Spread Classifications
Beam Description | NEMA Type | Beam Spread in Degrees |
Very narrow | 1 | 10°- 18° |
Narrow | 2 | 18°- 29° |
Medium narrow | 3 | 29°- 46° |
Medium | 4 | 46°- 70° |
Medium wide | 5 | 70°- 100° |
Wide | 6 | 100°- 130° |
Very Wide | 7 | 130° and above |
Lumens You Need to Replace Metal Halide and Halogen Flood Lights
It depends on the power of your existing flood lights. We can easily match and replace the lumen output of almost every standard halogen and metal halide bulb with a one-for-one LED equivalent light.
The lumen output, although less with LED, will result in the same or better lighting because LED is a directional, high-quality light source.
Here are some LED replacement guidelines to follow:
- 250-Watt HID / Metal Halide: 9,000 – 12,000 lumens
- 400-Watt HID / Metal Halide: 15,000 – 25,000 lumens
- 1000-Watt HID / Metal Halide: 35,000 – 50,000 lumens
- 1500-Watt + HID / Metal Halide: 50,000 – 90,000 lumens
Choosing the Right Wattage for Commercial Outdoor Flood Lights
This depends on your area, needs, and requirements. We do have outdoor flood lights that can match and replace metal halide, high-pressure sodium, and halogen floods, 1 for 1. A service you can expect from your flood lights manufacturer is to help you select the number of lumens and proper beam angles. This will help narrow down your options so that you can choose the best light.
Best Light Coverage with LED Flood Lighting
It depends on the beam angle you choose. If you are unsure, contact a light expert at LED Lighting Supply and we can help you with that.
Best Outdoor LED Flood Lights
The best LED flood light is the one that fulfills your requirements. Flood lights are a defined light source and have many options, such as power, lumens, and beam angles. What works best for one lighting application may not be the right choice for another.
We offer free lighting plans that will help you find the best commercial flood option for your needs.
Brightest LED Flood Lights We Offer
The brightest LED lights we offer produce 180,000 lumens. It’s a 1200-Watt LED flood fixture. This of course is only needed for very specific requirements. We can replace almost all common 250-Watt, 400-Watt, 1000-Watt, 1500-Watt, and even 2000-Watt HID / Metal Halide / High-Pressure Sodium fixtures with LED.
Check out our LED High Power Flood Lights here. These are the lights we have provided to many customers to light up all types of sports fields. They are also installed as security lights and as marine lights on boats and drilling platforms.
The Life Expectancy of LED Flood Lights
Our LED floodlights should last 10-15 years. This assumes running the light 12 hours a night, 365 days a year. All our floodlights come with a 5-year warranty.
Whether you choose the 250-Watt option, the 400-Watt LED flood fixture, or one of our more powerful LED light solutions, you can expect them to be low maintenance and provide reliable lighting for over a decade. This long-term efficiency guarantee will help you save money, time, and resources – without compromising on your outdoor lighting needs.
Replace Metal Halide and Halogen Flood Lights with LED
Our LED Commercial flood light lamps should be 1-for-1 replacements of your existing flood lights. We offer slip fitter, trunnion mount, and threaded NPT options.
Wall Mounting Flood Light Options
We offer a trunnion mount with adjustable pivot points that can be installed on a wall. We also offer wall-mounted “flood”, or forward throw wall packs that might be a great option for you.
Knuckle Mount Flood Lights
We offer several knuckle mount flood light models that you can install into an existing junction box. We also sell Yoke Mount Floods, another common type of popular mounting choice.
Replace 400 Watt Metal and 1000 Watt Halide Flood Light with LED
We can replace 50 to 2000-watt metal halide fixtures one-for-one with LED. This can be done without installing many fixtures, adding new poles, or changing your wiring. And you should expect significant energy savings when you convert from Metal Halide to LED.
Using Motion Sensors with LED Flood Lights
Using a motion sensor with an LED Flood is a great security lighting option. You might want to include one on a general-purpose light used, for example, in parking lots.
How to Install an LED Flood Fixture
The installation process of floodlights is simple, and a great part of it depends on the mount option.
If you’re replacing flood lights and choosing a fixture with a similar mount, then the installation is simple.
- Disconnect the light from the power source.
- Remove the fixture.
- Mount the new fixture.
- Connect the new fixture to the power source.
Choose the Right Beam Pattern for Commercial LED Flood Lighting
Most lower-wattage lights come with a wide beam angle. But the answer is simple – create a lighting plan.
In the case of large spaces or outdoor sports facilities, having a lighting plan is a great idea. We can manipulate the quantity, power, light output/lumens, and beam angles of the fixtures within the plan. The light plan will help you choose the best fixture for your application.
Best Color Temperatures for LED Flood Lights
By far the most popular are:
- 5000K Color Temperature – Bright White
- 4000K Color Temperature – Warm White
5000K Color Temperature is the best replacement for Metal Halide. If you’re looking for a warm color, then 4000K Color Temperature is a good choice.
Best Applications for Flood Lights
LED floodlights can be a great option for security illumination. Or lighting up large spaces when pole mounting is required. We have also used them to light up parking lots, tennis courts, pickleball courts, and basketball courts. We have installed them for softball / baseball / football and soccer lighting. They are all-purpose lights with unlimited applications.
We Have Marine Grade LED Flood Lights
Our marine-grade floodlights are more robust than standard LED Floodlights used in non-marine environments. That means they have special finishes, either powder coats or epoxy finishes. That also means that external hardware is stainless steel. It can withstand the harsh corrosive conditions of salt water and saltwater air.
How to Reduce Glare
You should consider adding some side shields to the lights to block direct view of the light source.
