What is Industrial LED Lighting?

Industrial LED Lighting is a line of products that are designed to be used in industrial applications such as:

What Makes an LED Light Industrial Grade?

Many things come into play when it comes to industrial-grade LED Lighting.

  • Lights with an impact rating of IK08-IK10 (the highest impact test rating)
  • Hazardous Location explosion-proof fixtures. Our company offers Class 1 Division 1 and Class 1 Division 2 fixtures.
  • Vapor-tight and food-safe NSF Grade fixtures.
  • High voltage (up to 480 Volts) and High Powered (replaces a 2000-Watt Metal Halide/HID) LED Fixture.
  • Outdoors, we offer high-power, sturdy fixtures that can be installed in sports fields and stadiums.

How Much Energy Do Industrial LED Lights Save Compared to Traditional (HID) Lighting?

They typically can save at least 50% and as much as 80% over metal halide and high-pressure sodium fixtures. They can save even more when paired with lighting controls like motion sensors and photocells.

What is the Best Way to Ensure the Light Levels are Proper and Balanced Across the Industrial Space?

The best way is to start with a lighting plan.

Lighting Plans for Industrial Areas, indoors or outdoors, provide the proper assurances that the lighting project will meet your requirements. We supply free lighting design plans for our industrial customers. Ask your industrial light fixtures manufacturer to provide one for your project. If they do not offer the service, you are in the wrong place.

Advantages of Using LEDs for Industrial Applications

Our industrial-grade products provide high power and high-quality lighting with robust, impact-resistant fixtures that work well in extreme environments. The biggest benefit is that they will dramatically reduce your maintenance costs over an expected lifetime of 10+ years.

Best Way to Select the Right LED Industrial Lights for a Specific Application or Setting

The best way is to contact us. We have been guiding LED lights to our customers since 2008, from contractors to industrial lighting distributors. We have the knowledge and expertise to know what works and what doesn’t work for industrial applications. And we can produce a lighting design plan for you to show what we suggest will work and meet your needs.

The Difference Between Industrial Lighting and Commercial Lighting

Predominantly, it’s related to what facility the lighting is installed in. An Industrial Facility is one where manufacturing occurs or hazardous processes or conditions exist. It requires rugged, application-specific lights to meet the demanding needs of the environment or process.

Commercial Lighting is typically found in spaces like gymnasiums, warehouses that store products, retail locations, schools, office spaces, and hospitals, for example. Conditions within these locations are not extreme. Therefore, the demands of what the light needs to do are not as severe or necessary.

Voltage Options for Industrial-Grade LED Lighting

LED lighting typically runs in several voltage ranges. The first and most common is 100-277V. The drivers are designed to automatically adjust/switch to the voltage provided in that range.

So, if the industrial LED Fixture is equipped with a 100V-277V driver, and your input voltage is 240V, the driver will automatically switch to accept the 240V input.

Here are the common voltage ranges we see offered across many of our LED fixtures:

  • 100V-277V
  • 277V-480V
  • 347V-480V

Reducing Glare from Industrial LED Light Fixtures

Many of our lights are high-lumen fixtures, and glare can be an issue. But there are ways you can control and limit the effect of glare. This includes selecting the right fixture for your light level required, adding frosted lenses to LED industrial lighting fixtures, and shields to outside fixtures.

Lumens Per Square Foot for Industrial Applications

We never advise our clients to determine lumens per square foot. We work with them to determine the right amount of lighting for foot candles on the ground and then recommend a fixture that, when installed within their facility, will hit the mark for their specific area.

We Sell Industrial Grade High Bay Lighting

LED Lighting Supply specializes in Industrial and commercial lights, including industrial-grade high bays. We offer many of the fixtures you would associate with indoor and industrial outdoor LED lighting:

Is Hanging Industrial Lighting from the Ceiling an Issue?

Many of our LED lights for industrial use include all the hardware required to hang from the ceiling, and we also provide the option for mounting, depending on what is required in your installation. LED lights tend to be lighter than the metal halide lights they replace.

Linear fixtures are not heavier than the fluorescent lights they replace.

Typically mounting options include an eye hook, pendant, surface mounting, wire, and cable.

Of interest, Industrial LED Lighting fixtures weigh less than HID (Metal Halide) fixtures. So, an LED Fixture designed to replace a 1000-watt Metal Halide will typically weigh less than the Metal Halide fixture.

Are Lighting Controls Available with Industrial LED Fixtures?

Yes, they are. Because LED Lights are Instant On / Instant Off and can dim, they are well suited for motion sensors and photocells, or a combination of both. Dimming motion sensors can only be used with LED Fixtures using dimmable LED Drivers.

How to Install LED Industrial Lighting

A qualified electrician can easily replace an existing metal halide, high-pressure sodium, or fluorescent fixture with a 1-for-1 replacement of an LED fixture. We offer the same mounting systems, so there is no need to modify the mount you have. And, our lights wire directly into the same junction boxes as the old fixtures do.

Is Common Neutral Used for Industrial Lighting?

Yes, we have options that can wire to common, 277V, 480V, single-phase, and three-phase electric installations.

Wiring LED Industrial Lighting

If you are wiring to 100-277V, it’s a simple 3-wire connection. Line, Neutral, and Ground. We also have options that can connect to 347-480V, single-phase, or three-phase. For the most part, a qualified electrician can easily wire our industrial lighting into the existing infrastructure of the facility.

And since LEDs use less power, there is no need to modify the panel to add more circuits. Amp draw will be less per fixture than the fixtures they replace.

Benefits of Using LED Lights in Industrial Settings and Applications

  1. Energy savings: You should expect 50% to 80% reduced costs over traditional lighting. There are additional savings when controls are used.
  2. Less maintenance: HID (Metal Halide) bulbs need replacing at around 15,000 hours. At 1/2 life (7500 hours), they have lost 1/2 of their lumens.
  3. Instant On and Instant Off. No long start-up/strike times using LED lights. So, the lights are on when you need them – instantly.
  4. Works well with motion sensors. They can turn on and off quickly – and dim – so they work well with these energy savings controls.
  5. Dimming: Some LEDs (not all) can dim. In warehouses and factories, this means you can dim the lights when the space is empty. Works perfectly with dimming motion sensors.
  6. Lights available for hazardous locations: Whether you need explosion-proof, high-temperature, or other hazardous location lighting, it’s all available in an LED format.
