What are LED Factory Lights?

Factories are more demanding than normal commercial spaces. The lights needed must also match these areas. Factory lighting fixtures should be robust and impact-resistant. Some factories might need high-temperature lighting or explosion-proof lighting installed in hazardous areas.

We offer High Power and Robust LED Fixtures for Factories and Manufacturing plants that are:

  • powerful with low energy consumption
  • robust, impact-resistant
  • waterproof
  • high temperature rated
  • explosion proof rated

Types of LED Factory Lights for Manufacturing Plants Use

There are many types of factory lights and LED fixtures you can use in a manufacturing plant. This depends on the environment and the type of work done.

OSHA, ANSI, and IES Foot Candle Requirements for Factory Lighting

Here are the OSHA requirements for a factory:

  • Offices and first-aid stations: 30-foot candles
  • General shops and construction plants: 10-foot candles
  • General construction areas, warehouses, walkways, and corridors: 5-foot candles
  • Belowground work areas: 5-foot candles
  • Loading platforms, waste areas, field maintenance areas, and active storage areas: 3-foot candles

Here are the ANSI and IES requirements, for conversion to foot candles:

  • Areas not used for visual tasks: 10-20 foot candles
  • Areas used for large-scale visual tasks / high contrast requirements: 20-50 foot candles
  • Areas used for small-scale visual tasks / medium contrast: 50-100 foot candles
  • Spaces used for very small-scale visual tasks / low contrast: 100-200 foot candles

What is Steel Mill Lighting?

Steel mills are more demanding than normal commercial spaces. They are more demanding than most factory environments. The lights needed must also match the challenges of these areas. Steel Mill lighting should be robust and impact-resistant. Some factories might need high-temperature lighting or Explosion Proof Lighting installed in hazardous areas.

Are there Specific Requirements for Steel Mill LED Lighting?

You first have to understand the lighting needs and requirements. And what are the physical requirements of the plant? Steel mills can be dirty, hot, and dusty environments. Understanding this will help us to suggest the best lighting solution for you.

Best Types of LED Lights for a Factory or Manufacturing Plant

There is no one best type of light, but there is the best light suited for your specific application. And that’s where we can help. We have been recommending lights for applications for 10+ years. We will back up our recommendations by creating a free lighting design plan so you can see how well our lights will work in your factory or manufacturing application.

LED Lighting can Improve Safety in a Factory or Manufacturing Plant

There are many reasons why LED Lighting can improve safety in a factory or manufacturing plant. Employees in the plant will notice improved visibility – which will help increase production as well.  Here are a few others:

  • Bright Lighting: LED Lights are energy-efficient, powerful fixtures, and can easily replace metal halide fixtures one for one.
  • High-Quality Light: The quality of the light produced by LED (Color Rendering Index) is 70 or higher.
  • Maintains lumen output for a very long time: Unlike Metal Halide which loses 1/2 of its lumens at 1/2 life of the bulb, LEDs can maintain high lumen output for a very long time.
  • Long lifespan: No bulbs or ballasts to replace. At 12 hours a day, 365 days a year, many of our LED Fixtures will run for 10+ years. These will lower your maintenance costs.

Can you Replace a 1000-watt Metal Halide Light with a 300-watt LED Fixture?

Yes, our 300-watt LED fixture should work well, but other factors come into play as well. Fixture spacing is one of them. If you can provide us with a layout of your factory, along with light locations, we can create a lighting plan for you to make sure we meet your foot candle requirements.

Can LED Light Fixtures Run 24/7 in a Factory?

You can operate them 24/7 if that’s what you need. Let us know if that’s a need and we can find the best fixture for your application.

Ideal Lighting Levels for a Manufacturing Plant

We have created lighting plans for large and small warehouses using warehouse lighting from 30 to 70-foot candles. And lighting plans for manufacturing plants that exceed 100-foot candles.

Every space is different. Our lights can accommodate your needs. Our free lighting plan services will help you find the right factory lighting to meet your needs.

Lighting Options Available for LED Factory Lighting

Emergency Backup: You can equip some of our lights with EMBs, and some are external to the fixture. The fixtures need to be dimmable for this to work.

High Voltage Options: Choose between 100V-277V or 277V-480V LED Driver options. Both are auto switching and detect incoming voltage and adjust automatically.

Motion Sensors: Many of our lights offer motion sensors as an option. If this is something you need, we can find a fixture to which you can add motion sensors. Some of our fixtures come standard with them already attached.

High Impact Lighting: The rating for impact is IK. It’s a rating between 1 and 10, with 10 being the highest rating available. We have many fixtures that have IK10 ratings.

Mounting Options: We can offer eyehooks, pendants, trunnions, and wire/chain mounts.

High-Power LED Factory Lighting: We offer 450-watt and 600-watt UFO High Bays that produce 72000 and 96000 lumens.

Lighting Controls: Many of our LED lights are dimmable. They can attach to external hardware controls that control the function of the light.

Will Dust Impact the LED Light Fixtures’ Performance?

The dust may impede the light if it is allowed to collect on the lens. We recommend cleaning the lens and fixture to make sure it is operating properly.
