General
What Is Steel Mill Lighting?
Steel mills are more demanding than normal commercial spaces. In fact, they are more demanding than most industrial environments. The lights needed must also match the challenges of these areas. Steel Mill lighting should be robust and impact resistant. Some factories might need high-temperature lighting, or need Explosion Proof Lighting installed in hazardous areas.
What temperatures are your High-Temperature Lights rated for?
We offer several families of high-temperature lighting that are rated up to the following ranges:
As long as these lights are not mounted directly above extremely hot heat sources or in the path of super-heated air, they will provide you with years of trouble-free lighting.
Another tip is to make sure the lights are suspended a few feet below the ceiling height. This small difference will dramatically reduce the temperatures the fixtures are exposed to.
What explosion-proof classifications for lighting can you provide?
We offer both Class 1 Division 1 and Class 2 Division 2 Explosion proof lights.
BEFORE YOU BUY
Are There Specific Requirements for Steel Mill Lighting using LED Fixtures?
You first have to understand the lighting needs and requirements. And what are the physical requirements of the plant? Steel mills can be dirty, hot, and dusty environments. Understanding this will help us to suggest the best lighting solution for you.
How Durable Are Your Industrial Lighting Fixtures used in a Steel Mill? Can They Withstand the Impact of Normal Factory Operations?
The rating for impact is IK. It’s a rating between 1 and 10, with 10 being the highest rating available. We have many fixtures that have IK10 ratings.
Is a 300 Watt LED Fixture Powerful Enough to Replace 1000 Watt Metal Halide Lights Hanged at 45 Feet?
Most likely, yes, but there are other factors that come into play as well. Fixture spacing is one of them. If you can provide us with a layout of your factory, along with light locations, we can create a lighting plan for you to make sure we meet your foot candle requirements.
Do Your Industrial Steel Mill Lights Have an Emergency Backup (EMB) Option?
You can equip some of our lights with EMBs, and some are external to the fixture. The fixtures need to be dimmable for this to work.
Is a Motion Sensor an Available Option?
Yes, it is. If this is something you need, we can find a fixture to that you can add motion sensors. Some of our fixtures come standard with them already attached.
Which LED high bay light works best in a factory?
We are preferential to UFO LED High Bays. They are very robust impact resistant. IP-Rated for wet locations. And powerful to match and exceed any existing Metal Halide / HID High Bay.
What are your most popular Industrial Light fixtures?
Our most popular industrial lights are our 150 Watt UFO High Bay (designed to replace 400 Watts Metal Halide), our 240 Watt UFO High Bay, and our 300 Watt UFO High Bay (both designed to replace 1000 Watts Metal Halide).
Do you sell high-power LED Industrial Lighting?
We do. We offer a 450 Watt and 600 Watt UFO High Bay that produces 72000 and 96000 lumens.
Can Light Fixtures Run 24/7 in a Steel Mill? Do They Need to Turn off to Rest?
You can operate them 24/7 if that’s what you need. Let us know if that’s a need and we can find the best fixture for your application.
Our Steel Mill is a very dusty environment. Will this impact the light fixture’s performance?
The dust may impede the light if dust is allowed to collect on the lens. We recommend cleaning the lens and fixture to make sure it is operating properly.
What Mounting Options Are Available for Installing Lights in a Steel Mill?
We can offer eye-hook, pendants, trunnions, and wire/chain mounts.

If a Fixture Fails in Our Facility How Do We Get It Fixed? What Is the Warranty?

Are Your LED Lighting Fixtures Eligible for Rebates After Installation?
Many of our lights are eligible for rebates. Make sure you discuss this with your utility company. Some of them need the rebate process to start before you buy or install the lights.
