What Are High Temperature LED Lights?
Most LED products fail quickly in ambient temperatures that are higher than what they are rated for. There is a simple explanation why. Most LED products are designed to work at the upper end of what the LED chips and drivers are capable of performing at. These components have an upper range of what is a safe operating temperature they need to be below.
The sum of the heat they produce and the ambient heat of the surrounding environment must be below the stated upper operating temperature of the fixture. When it is not, the expected life of the fixture is severely reduced and the warranty is voided.
What Does High Temperature Lighting Mean?
High Temperature Lighting refers to lights that are capable of operating in hot environments. Our heat resistant lights can easily operate in temperatures up to 110-125F.
However, above these temperatures, these lights would experience a shortened lifespan. High temp LEDs can typically operate in temperatures well above 125F, but we also have fixtures that operate up to 212F.
Do You Have Proof These Lights Work in Hot Environments?
In addition to scientific lab data tested by engineers, we have our lights installed in nuclear power plants on top of the reactors on the refueling floors where, in the months of summer, ambient temperatures can rise very high.
We have many installations where lights are installed in rooms with large induction and natural gas fired ovens. These lights have been installed in these environments for years and are still working perfectly.
Do You Have a Light That Can Work Up to 100 Celcius (212 Farenheit)?
We do, our upper range high temperature light is capable of temperatures of 212F, or 100C. We also offer lights that can handle upper temperatures of 60C, 70C, 80C and 90C (140F - 212F).
What About Extreme Cold Temperatures?
While most of what we talk about is hot environments, the reverse is also true. These lights are designed to handle the extreme cold as well, where normal LED lights would fail. The same lights that are designed to handle 194F and 212F can also handle -85F.

How Will the Light Perform If the Heat Goes Over the Rated Temperature?
If the heat goes above the rated temperature, then you can expect the light to have a shortened lifespan. Please note, the warranty would be voided in this case.
What Is a High Ambient Temperature for a LED Light?
A high ambient temperature LED light, for us, is anything above 122F or 50C. Some of our ‘normal high temperature LED fixtures’ have this as their upper temperature range.
Do You Sell A High Temperature Rated Emergency Exit Sign?
We do sell explosion proof rated emergency exit signs rated to withstand temperatures of up to 185F.
Do You Have A Light That Can Withstand High Heat And Can Be Washed Down With Water?
Yes, we have many high temperature lights that have an IP Rating of IP66. This rating allows them to be washed down or be exposed to a wet environment.
Can Fixtures Operate at the Maximum Temperature 24/7?
They can, but we would want to know about that environment in which they will be used and work with you to make sure the lights operate properly. We have our 194F lights installed in a nuclear power station sitting above the reactors on the re-fueling floor.
In August, the ambient temperature can get very hot, but then drop to a less critical temperature for the rest of the year. It is rare that we have had a customer tell us the temperatures are extremely high all the time.
Is the Wire Attached Rated for High Temperature?
Everything that we supply with the fixture is rated for the temperature it is meant to operate in, including the wire whip.
Are High Temperature Fixtures Dimmable?
Some of the fixtures can be, this is a special order. The problem with dimming a high temperature fixture is that the switch or motion sensor used for the dimming also needs to be rated to the same operating temperature. We are not aware of any commercial options available that support this.
What Is the Life Expectancy of High Temperature Fixtures?
We warranty the fixtures for 5 years. In normal operating conditions, you can expect that lifespan. The range really depends on how high the temperature is, how many days a year that temperature is maintained, and how many hours a day the lights are used. All are factors in determining the actual lifespan of these fixtures. In most cases, you can expect 10+ years out of a fixture.
How Were High Temperature Fixtures Designed and Tested to Confirm They Work at High Temperatures?
These lights are put in a very hot oven at the highest temperature rated, for a very long time, and then the engineers calculate LED and driver decay based on the test. It is essentially the same way they determine the lifespan for lesser LED lights not designed for high temperatures. The only difference is the testing temperatures for these lights are much higher.
What is the warranty period on these fixtures?
Under "normal" operating conditions, assuming the max temperature does not exceed the rated operating temperatures of the fixtures, they are warrantied for a full 5 years. They are all UL/ETL Listed and many are rebate eligible.

What’s the Best Application for High Temperature Lights?
We have sold these fixtures to many industrial facilities and many hot regions around the world, including the deserts of California, Arizona, Las Vegas and the Middle East. We have many nuclear and fossil fuel power generation facilities that use our lights, as well as companies that use blast and induction furnaces as part of their manufacturing processes.
Do You Have High Temperature Fixtures for Industrial Applications?
Yes. Most, if not all, of these fixtures are meant for industrial use.
What Voltages Can Be Supported with a High Temperature Fixture?
We offer both 100-277V and 277-480V driver options on most of our high temperature fixtures.
How Do I Install High Temperature Lighting?
There is nothing special about the mounting. They are in many ways the same as a normal high bay light. For our nuclear power customers, we offer safety cables to comply with the standards set for nuclear power lighting.
How Do High Temperature Fixtures Mount?
The same as a typical high bay or flood fixture. We offer eye hooks, pendant and wire mounting, as well as trunnion/yoke mount for ceiling/wall mount applications.
Do You Stock High Temperature Lights?
Yes, but not all models. Some of our lights are made to order, because it is important to configure these lights properly.
Can I Get a Lighting Plan Layout?
The short answer is yes. We offer free lighting plans for our commercial and industrial customers.
