Choose the Best High Bay LED Lights

Maybe you're starting to replace Metal Halide / High Pressure Sodium / HID fixtures with High Bay LED Lights. When selecting new indoor LED High Bay Fixtures, here are the equivalent LED lumens for each common HID wattage fixture. You can determine the specific output by understanding the following:
  1. What is the current wattage?
  2. How many High Bay Lights are there?
  3. How high are the high bay lights mounted?
  4. What is the space used for?

Choose a LED Bay Lights Style

  • UFO High Bay Lights: LED UFO Round Lights are perfect to replace Metal Halide / HID high bay light fixtures. High Impact Rated and waterproof. Perfect for higher ceilings.
  • LED Linear High BaysPanel-style LED Linear High Bay Lights are a great replacement for fluorescent / T5 fixtures. Great Light distribution.
  • Low Bay Lights: Lower-powered high bay fixtures designed for ceiling heights < 20 feet.

Select the Proper High Bay LED Lights Features

  • Voltage: 100-277V or 277-480V. Our UFO High Bays automatically switch to your input voltage.
  • Wattage Adjustable: Some of our High Bays are wattage adjustable. This means you can select the power and light output of the fixture post-installation.
  • Mounting Options: Eye Hook, Pendant Mount, Ceiling Mount, or Wire/Cable Suspension
  • Motion Sensor: Dim the lights when the room is empty using either a PIR or microwave motion sensor
  • Color Temperature: 4000K or 5000K. Some of our High Bays are color-selectable. You can choose the color temperature after you install it.
  • Beam Angle: 120 degrees standard, 90 or 60 degrees for higher ceilings. Used to focus light. We even have a UFO HB4 fixture that allows you to twist the optic to the desired beam angle that works best for you.

Benefits of LED High Bay Lighting - Besides Energy Efficiency

  • Long Life: Years of maintenance-free life without bulb or ballast changes reducing or eliminating maintenance costs
  • Reduced Energy Bills: You can expect to reduce your energy costs and lighting bills by 50% to 75% with lower energy consumption versus traditional lighting. And if you add motion sensors, you can expect even more savings.
  • Energy Efficient Lighting: LED High Bay Light Fixtures are known for their efficiency and energy savings. They convert most of the electricity used into light. Very little heat is created. This will reduce your HVAC load
  • Controls Ready: Instant on and instant off, along with dimming, makes these lights perfect for use with motion sensors. Motion sensors can be set up to turn off or dim. This will reduce your lighting costs even more.
  • Quick Pay Back / ROI: The savings in energy will create a short ROI. And the higher the utility cost per kWh, the faster the payback.
  • No Recycling Costs: There are no harsh chemicals like Mercury in LED High Bays. So while you should properly dispose of them at the End Of Life, there are no costly charges like there are with fluorescent lighting.

Maintaining High Bay LED Lights

How much maintenance is there? Theoretically none. They are not like HID light sources that need bulb and ballast replacements. However, if the LED High Bay Lights are installed in environments that are dusty and dirty, cleaning them off with compressed air will help the heat sinks work effectively. Even with consistent use, our top-quality linear high bay lights and UFOs don’t require regular maintenance or replacement. This makes them the ideal choice because when you install high bay lighting fixtures, you’ll have cost-effective solutions lasting for years.

How Many High Bay LED Lights Do I Need?

Converting your lights from metal-halide or fluorescent? There is a high probability we can do a 1-for-1 replacement to an LED High Bay light. For new lighting layouts, it’s important to go through the following steps: 1. How many foot-candles do you want on the ground? 2. What is the physical space of the area? 3. Are there any obstructions? From there, we can create a lighting plan that models this area. This plan will tell you:
  • how many LED High Bay Lights you will need
  • where they’re located in the facility
  • the optimal distance between fixtures
School Gym Lighting Plan 1024x606 1 The lighting plan will show you the average, min, and maximum foot-candle readings in the space. This is an indication of whether the selected light is capable of providing sufficient, bright light. It will show you how balanced the light is (look for a low average/min ratio). For ceilings ranging from 15 to 40+ feet, use the following guide to choose the proper lumen output. For lower ceilings, 8-15 feet, use low bay lights.
  • 15-20 feet ceiling height: 100-150 watts: 15,000 – 22,500 lumens
  • 20-30 feet ceiling height:  120-200 watts: 18,000 – 30,000 lumens
  • 31-40 feet ceiling height: 240-300 watts:  40,800 – 45,000 lumens
  • 40+ feet ceiling height: 400-600 watts: 72,000 – 96,000 lumens

Comparing Beam Spread: UFO LED Lights vs LED High Bay Linear Lights

Our linear (panel) high bays are physically bigger than our UFO fixtures. The LEDs attach in strips over the length and width of the fixture. A UFO is around 12-15 inches in diameter. The LEDs are densely packed. By the nature of the design of a linear fixture, it produces a wider beam spread. You cannot add optics to our linear fixtures. Ceiling heights above 30 feet, the broad spread would work against the linear fixture. A UFO fixture with a tighter beam angle would be a better option. UFO vs Linear
