What are 400 Watt Metal Halide High Bay LED Equivalent?
A 400 Watt Metal Halide is probably the most common Metal Halide High Bay found in commercial and industrial indoor applications. They are mounted typically at around 20 to 30 feet high, and spaced around 20 feet apart.
A LED Equivalent to a 400 Watt Metal Halide High Bay is either a LED UFO Fixture or Linear Fixture designed specially to replace these Metal Halide fixtures. They are designed with enough lumens to easily perform a one to one replacement of Metal Halide fixtures.
How many LED Watts does it take to replace a 400 Watt Metal Halide High Bay?
This question is a bit misleading, because you should be thinking about lumens to replace, and not watts to replace. We have sold 120 Watts, 150 Watts and even 200 Watts LED High Bay lights to replace 400 Watts Metal Halide, and in each case, the lighting sold was to match the individual and specific needs of the customer. If a customer has 400 Watt LED High Bays and finds the lighting dim, we may suggest a higher wattage high bay to produce more light. The number of watts is really dependent on the lumens needed and how efficient the light is. More efficient LED High Bays need less watts to replace 400 Watts Metal Halide.
How many lumens does it take to replace a 400 Watt Metal Halide High Bay?
For the most part, in very general terms, we have found a range between 15,000 and 25,000 lumens is more than enough to replace 400 Watts Metal Halide. While this may seem like a wide range, the range includes flexibility to be specific for lighting up different applications. The real answer comes from developing a lighting plan for the space.
