What are 1000 Watt Metal Halide Equivalent LED High Bays?
1000 Watt Metal Halide High Bays are very common in industrial and commercial spaces. They are typically mounted 30+ feet above the floor, producing bright, powerful light on the floor below. LED High Bays, designed to replace these metal halide fixtures, produce enough lumens to replace these fixtures. They come in two formats - round UFO style and linear panel style.
What's the best way to replace a 1000 Watt Metal Halide Equivalent LED High Bay?
The best way is to start off by determining the foot candles you need on the floor. From there, consider creating a lighting plan.
A lighting plan models entire areas or a smaller section of an interior location. Room dimensions are entered, and light locations are plotted. And from this plan, lights can be swapped in and out until the lighting requirements are meant.
A lighting plan can respect existing lighting locations, or plot entirely new ones - depending on what you - as a customer - requires.
And the best news - we offer free High Bay Lighting Plans to our commercial and industrial customers.
How many lumens does it take to replace a 1000 Watt Metal Halide Equivalent LED High Bay?
We have found that it takes between 36,000 and 55,000 lumens to replace a 1000 Watt Metal Halide High Bay. Why such a big range?
No two facilities are alike. Mounting heights, spacing between fixtures, and room conditions are all different. As well as foot candle requirements. Someone who needs 25 foot candles averaged over the floor space needs a different light from someone who needs 60 foot candles. Both solutions would use a LED fixture designed to replace 1000 Watts Metal Halide, but the LED fixtures are probably vastly different.
That is why we tell our customers to consider doing a lighting plan first. The perfect light will become evident after the plan is created.
