Can I Replace My Old Warehouse Lights with LEDs – 1 for 1?

Yes, quite easily. We can also re-plan your lighting layout if that is something you want or need. But for the most part, we have enough lighting options to replace your existing lights with LED without having to add any new fixtures, or rewire your building.

Why Are LEDs Better for a Warehouse Than Metal Halide Lights?

There are several reasons why LED warehouse lighting is more suitable than metal halide. Here are a few:
Reduce energy consumption by 50-90%;
Dramatically reduce maintenance costs with 10+ years of maintenance free lighting;
Work well with motion sensors – so lights are only at full power when they are needed;
Instant on – instant off - no waiting for metal halide to come to full power;
No annoying humming ballasts.

Why Are LEDs Better for a Warehouse Than Fluorescent Lighting?

Many of the same benefits from above apply here. Cost savings and maintenance savings are substantial. But benefits over fluorescent tubes include:

No humming ballasts, and no flickering/strobing tubes;
No costly recycling costs with LED – they do not contain mercury.

How Much Light Do I Need in a Warehouse?

This really depends on how the warehouse is being used. Warehouses that are used primarily for storage need less light than a warehouse where there is a lot of activity involving equipment.

Light levels are measured in the terms of foot candles on the ground. Foot candles are a result of the lumen output a fixture has and watts produces the lumen output. The more lumens per watt, the better your energy savings will be.

At the lower end, you should try to hit a target of 20 to 30 foot candles, and depending on what your needs are, you can always increase that. Many of our lighting plans for warehouses are done trying to achieve an average of 30-40 foot candles.

Can LED Lights Be Used in a Warehouse Setting?

Yes, in fact, our indoor high bay lights are specifically built for warehouses.
They easily replace fluorescent and metal halide / high pressure sodium lights, 1 for 1. It doesn’t matter if you are replacing 400 Watt or 1000 Watts Metal Halide – or – 4, 6 or 8 tube T5 54WHO fluorescent fixtures, our fixtures are designed to replace those lights, 1 for 1.

What Are the Different Types of LED Warehouse Lights?

The main type of light is a high bay, or low bay light. What you use will completely depend on the height of your ceilings. Use high bays at 20 feet or higher.

Within each type, there are UFO round fixtures and linear panel fixtures. The best way to think of these is: UFO replaces metal halide and linear panels replace fluorescent fixtures. That doesn’t mean you can’t replace fluorescent fixtures with LED UFO lights – you can. The experts at LED Lighting Supply can quickly and easily help you make the best choice.

What Can I Do If There Are Spaces in My Warehouse That Are Un-Occupied for Large Parts of the Day?

The best solution is to add a motion sensor. A motion sensor is designed specifically to solve this problem. They turn the lights to full power when motion is detected and turn off/dim the lights when parts of the building are not occupied. You can decide the best dimming strategy as well.

Do I need LED Warehouse Lights?

Yes, if you are tired of paying high lighting bills and budgeting for light maintenance every year, then yes, converting to LED makes sense. Paybacks are also relatively quick, and in many cases, under a year.

How Many Lumens Do I Need for a Warehouse?

Lumens is really a function of the amount of light each fixture produces. However, making a determination alone based on lumens or watts is not a good approach.

Always think in terms of foot candles - this is a true indication of how well lit your warehouse will be. That being said, here’s some simple guidelines to start with.

250 Watt Metal Halide, 10,000+ LED Lumens
400 Watt Metal Halide, 15,000+ LED Lumens
1000 Watt Metal Halide, 39,000+ LED Lumens

4 tube F54T5HO, 12,000+ LED Lumens
6 tube F54T5HO, 18,000+ LED Lumens
8 tube F54T5HO, 40,000+ LED Lumens

* Actual lumens needed will also be dictated by the mounting height of the fixture and the light level required.

How Many Warehouses Have You Converted Over to LED?

We have upgraded 1000's of warehouses over the last several years with LED lights. Here is an example of another job well done!

What Is The Brightest Warehouse Light You Offer?

The brightest UFO light is 600 Watts producing 96,000 lumens.
The brightest panel style high bay we offer is 500 Watts producing 71,000 lumens.

Both these options would only be used in a warehouse facility with ceilings over 40 feet in height.

What Is the Life Expectancy for Warehouse LEDs?

Each bulb’s lifespan is different, but many of our lights will last 10+ years operating 12 hours a day, 365 days a year. Adding motion sensors will also help increase the lifespan of the fixture.

How Are the Warehouse Lights Attached to Power? Are There Any Attachment Chains Included?

There are several options.

For UFO style lights, we offer eye hook, pendant and in some cases ceiling mounts.
For panel style lights, we offer wire/chain and pendant mounts on some lights.

All our UFO style lights use a wire/whip cord so your electrician can wire them directly into a junction box. Optionally, a plug can be added to the service end of the whip if your facility uses plugs instead of junction boxes. For Linear style lights, your installer will wire into the junction box on the fixture.

I’m Trying to Calculate a General Warehouse Lighting Space. How Many Lights Do I Need?

The best and easiest way is to have us create a lighting plan.
We recommend you avoid using simple warehouse lighting calculators. They only tell you the number of fixtures and expected foot candle reading. They do not plan lighting layout, nor calculate light balance and show you how even the lighting is. Getting the light balanced is just as important as meeting the foot candle requirements.

Do Your Warehouse Lights Come with Motion Sensors?

No, but many include them as an option. Adding a motion sensor is easy, and when you use the optional remote control we supply, setting them up is quick and easy.

Are Your LED Warehouse Lighting Plans Free?

They are for our commercial and industrial customers. So if you are a certified electrician, or own a warehouse, contact us today to receive a complimentary lighting plan.

Do Warehouse Lights Come with Emergency Backup Packs (EMBs)?

They are options on many of our warehouse fixtures, and have supplied them with both UFO and panel style high bays we sell. Call us to find out the best solution if you need an EMB. We usually find that when an emergency backup is required it is only needed on a small number of the fixtures to provide egress to the exits if power is lost.

An EMB will provide safety light for up to 90 min.

Do You Have Stock Available?

Yes, we have 1000’s of warehouse lights waiting to ship to your facility here in the USA, with many available out of our Nashua, NH warehouse.

What Are the Best Applications of LED Warehouse Lights?

If you are looking to reduce your lighting bills, reduce your maintenance costs, and provide humming free/strobing free lighting that can be dimmed with motion sensors and backed up with EMBS, then LED is the perfect solution for a warehouse.

How Much Does It Cost to Retrofit Lighting Fixtures in a Warehouse?

There are really two costs associated with converting your fixtures to LED -  the cost of the fixtures and the cost of installation. The cost of the fixtures is something we can help with. As well, we can help with rebates with your local utility if they offer rebates on LED lights that often includes reducing the combined cost of the fixtures and installation.

Do Linear Fixtures Give Better Light Coverage Than UFO Fixtures?

Yes – there is a slight advantage due to the design of the fixture. LEDs in a UFO fixture are grouped closely together, whereas LEDs in a linear fixture are arranged in several strips over the area of the fixture. However, this advantage becomes less apparent the higher the mounting is. In fact, in really high ceiling warehouses, UFOs have the advantage because narrowing beam optics can be added to get the light to the floor where it's needed.

I Have a Warehouse with 'X' 400 Watt Metal Halide High Bay Lights. What Is The Best LED Option To Use?

We have many UFO and linear options that you could use, but the best option really depends on your use and needs. However, a UFO that produces 15000 lumens plus will provide you equivalent light levels.

How Far Apart Should Lights Be for Warehouse Exterior?

This depends on how high the fixtures are mounted. The lower the height, the closer the fixtures need to be to each other. The higher the fixture, the further apart they can be.
The goal is to avoid shadows between fixtures and hot spots (too much light) right under a fixture.

How Do You Adjust the Lighting in Warehouse Lights?

Pre-purchase, the best way is to do a lighting plan in order to get the lighting right.
Post-purchase, assuming you have a dimmable driver, our lights can be dimmed to raise or lower lumens produced by each fixture.

Can You Run a Lighting Plan for My Warehouse?

Yes, we do this all the time. In a typical week, we run between 10 and 20 LED warehouse lighting plans for our commercial and industrial customers looking to upgrade their warehouse lighting – both indoors and outdoors. Scroll to the bottom of this page and ask for yours!

How Do You Mount Warehouse Lights?

We have several options, including eye hook, pendant, surface and chain wire mounts.
